Don't miss this opportunity to stay at one of the Valley's most iconic properties The Bug Eye House! This one of a kind character home sits on a large plot backing onto Crown land. It's less than five minutes to Invermere, 15 minutes to Panorama ski resort, and it's right in the heart of Lake Lillian and the Kloosifer bike trail system. There's swimming, biking, fishing, skating and more on your doorstep. Furthermore, there's a large parking area for oversized vehicles and snowmobile trailers.

The space

If you are looking for a character home for your next getaway in the mountains, then our Bug Eye home should definitely be on your to-stay list! Set on 2.3 acres backing onto Crown land, surrounded by mountain views, yet conveniently located for easy access to Invermere, Panorama Ski Resort, and Lake Lillian.

In front of the property is an exceptionally large parking area. Perfect if you have trailers, snowmobiles, or oversized vehicles. To the right of the property are rocky steps up to the back garden. In the garden you will see the caretakers house, and the stunning mountain views. As you look back up to the house you will see one of the iconic bug-eyes.

The front of the property has a lovely front deck, with a couple of chairs. There are wonderful views from this location. As you walk into the property this area was the original bathroom, however, it's been converted into a lobby area.

MAIN ENTRANCE
As you enter Bug Eye house you are immediately impressed (or amused) at the architecture, building materials, and overall design. There is nothing boring about Bug Eye! To your left are some coat hooks, in front of you are the brick stairs, and to your right a hallway to the bathroom and laundry room, and an archway to the dining area and kitchen.

LIVING AREA
As you walk under the brick archway you get to immediately appreciate the quirky design of this wonderful home. To your left are some leather chairs and couch with the most amazing and unusual coffee table. There is a fireplace, but please do not use as we are waiting on a service engineer to check it over. To your right is the wooden dining table with ceiling fan over, and the kitchen.

KITCHEN
This stainless steal kitchen is such a surprise for the style of house. Within the kitchen you will see a decorative antique oven. Quite the sight! This is for display only, the working oven is to your right. There is a little draw under the kitchen counter where you will find all the utencils. There are also a couple of bar stools for extra seating. The kitchen comes fully equipped with all you could need to whip up a snack or hearty meal. There will be salt, pepper, cooking oil, and fresh coffee beans for your use. Don't worry, we supply a coffee grinder for those beans, you just need to bring your whitener of choice.

LAUNDRY AND SHOWER ROOM
Back into the hallway and through the gothic arched door you will find the laundry room with a stacked washer/dryer, and access to the beautiful shower room. The design choices reflect the quirkiness of this home perfectly, and the shower is huge! There will be hotel quality towels, and locally made hand soap and body wash/shampoo for you as well.

Please be careful when walking under the archways as the flooring types change, and consequently there is a change in flooring height. We don't want stubbed toes!

UPSTAIRS
There is a set of spectacular brick stairs leading up to the first floor. Up here you will find a couple of couches, large TV, and round the corner a king bedroom area, and a large separate dressing room. Back to the top of the stairs and to your right is the second, but separate queen bedroom. This room has a door for privacy. Both beds are dressed in high quality bed linens for that extra bit of comfort and luxury.

Within the upstairs lounge area is the front bug-eye window that over looks the front of the property, and out to the mountain ranges.

NOTE: due to the house being a log house there are flies. Please be assured that thorough cleaning does take place in between guest stays.

Guest access

You will have complete and private access to this house during your stay. Please note, there is a caretaker that lives on site about 200 yards away in the bunk house.

Interaction with guests

We partner with FantasticStay to offer 24/7 local support during your stay.

Other things to note

If you have any kind of allergy please reach out to us prior to booking.

Please note, there are friendly cats on the property that take care of the mice. Please do not feed them even if you think they are hungry, as they are not (if you do feed them, they will eat until they are sick). They have a warm bed, food, and water awaiting them, and are well cared for. Please also do not allow them into the house.

Since Bug Eye is made of logs, it means there are flies and occasional dusty areas due to the tongue and grove first floor. After every clean flies and dust are removed from the window ledges and surfaces, but you may find some upon your arrival. Occasionally, due to the rural location of this property, we may have to lay out some mouse traps. Please leave these in place and keep children and fingers away!

Our neighbor has dogs, and when the wolves are nearby they bark. There is nothing we can do about this but apologize in advance. If you look out across the road and pastures when the dogs are barking you are likely to see the wolves. Please respect the local wildlife and do not approach any wild animals.

Quirky little cabin just outside of Invermere.

We loved staying here! So fun to have the open land for our view but then to see the local cat everyday made it feel at home.

Really enjoyed this cabin. Well equipped. Very relaxing stay. Thanks!

Nice cozy place with a great view and welcoming porch cats

The Bug House is certainly unique. The pictures of the outside area and views from the inside looking out are carefully crafted. The location is within 30 yards of a roadway and the front port looks directly at a neighbor with a very hodge-podge set fenced in but covered with black plastic. Based on the photos we were thinking the Bug House was sitting in sizeable pastureland. The home was neat and clean. It is very unique style home. A blend of rustic cabin/with Spanish style brickwork and brass. Lots of interesting nooks and crannies. Upstairs has a lot of natural light, master bed very comfy. Very close (10-minute drive) to Invermere which is a wonderful town. Shawna was an excellent host. Very responsive to any questions or concerns.

Beautiful Home. Very peaceful.

Very friendly cats welcome us at the very beginning, and we are really excited during the tour. This site has great kitchen and a steamer in the bathroom for heating the showering space. Shawna replies quickly every time we ask. Recommend this place for traveling in Invermere!

We had an amazing time and loved every minute of our stay! The location is absolutely perfect, offering beautiful surroundings and a peaceful atmosphere. We would definitely visit again!

Great location, cute rustic cabin that was very comfortable. Cabin was cool for not having A/C so it was nice with the higher temp days. Close to town but still in the mountains with close lakes if you wanted to go for a dip or paddle boat. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals. Very romantic weekend with no complaints.

The Bug Eye House was a wonderful place to stay with its beautiful scenery and friendly cats. To the unique details in the castlesque cabin. Was truly a great experience! The shower was 10/10!

We had a great stay. Place matched the description and it was perfect for our family of four. Our girls loved hanging out with the kittens. We didn't use the appliances but did take advantage of the coffee, which was great btw. Others have mentioned but it's close enough to town to go in and out even several times a day, but far enough that it really feels like you're out in the country. Shawna the host was very responsive and kind.

The surroundings was not fully described like the garage-workshop place right in front of the house was not ideal but everything else was perfect :)

Really enjoyed our stay at the Bug Eye. We wanted a cabin and that’s what we got! Location was great and that bed in the main room was soooo comfy! A few more instructions re switches and the fan system would be helpful but overall we loved our stay at the Bug Eye!!

Beautiful spot with lots of rustic charm. We enjoyed our 4 night stay, it was comfortable and clean. We’ll miss the awesome guard cat team.

Fun and funky rustic log cabin with just enough luxury. Great views, big bed & shower. Local soaps and roasted coffee. Friendly outside cats. Great getaway just far enough outside town to feel like an escape, but close enough to pop into town for dinner or brunch

This was a very peaceful spot that worked out perfectly for all the things we wanted to see. We'd have no issues staying here again. The house was clean and as described in the listing. No complaints at all!

The Bug Eye house is an eclectic place with lots of wonderful features! The steam shower was a nice surprise! We also love the cats, Coconut and Smokey!

Great place to come come relax after a day of fishing

Awesome place! Well worth a stay, only downside was fireplaces weren’t operational but the furnace worked good so we still kept nice and warm, be careful pulling into the driveway as the black cat seems to have a death wish and would jump in front of the car to greet us every time we came back for the night. 10/10 would definitely stay here again

We loved our stay! The house was clean and well stocked. The steam shower was great. The cats were very friendly. Two of the upstairs bedrooms exit through the main bedroom so we would recommend groups that are familiar with each other.

Went for a romantic getaway for our anniversary and was pleasantly surprised. It was beautiful and secluded but a close enough drive to visit multiple hot springs, get groceries and enjoy nature. Lots of amenities in the house and a couple bonuses like the steam shower and couples swing. Would love to visit again.

Location was easy to locate. Right off the main road. House was furnished nicely and the kitchen had the bare essentials. The two bedrooms had beautiful bedding and the beds were soft and comfy. The light switches are kind of everywhere, it’ll take you a day to figure them out, but it was a fun scavenger hunt lol. The upstairs large bedroom is the only room that gets tons of light, it’s where the two “eye” windows are located. There are plenty of curtains for the late sleepers. The house is not as large as it looks in pictures, and there are two real beds. There is a futon in one room and the couch pulls out for a sleeper. Overall, I enjoyed staying here. In the off season- not much to do, so we left a day early to make our way back to Calgary. But overall would be a nice place to stay that isn’t a hotel. House was relaxing. Hosts automated messages were very informative and I didn’t need to ask for anything.

Such a cute cozy place, has a nice view of the mountains and it wasn’t far out of invemere

Great place with amazing views. Would book again!

We had a very comfortable, relaxing stay. The steam shower was amazing.

Great place to stay, Shauna was responsive to all our questions, really enjoyed our time at the bug eye house, would definitely go back.

Bon rapport qualité-prix.

Our family had a lovely stay at the Bug Eye House and found it fulfilled all of our needs. The communication with the host was prompt and any issues were resolved. One small issue we found, which was driveway hadn’t been clear of the snow on day of arrival. Ended up paying a neighbour to clear it, so we would not have issues in the morning. Other than that, we had a lovely stay and loved the uniqueness of the building itself. The steam shower was a nice plus after a long day outside. The area is very beautiful, as well as, the cats are very welcoming and love pets from anyone. We will definitely be back and hope to book again with this wonderful house.

Shawna’s place was absolutely amazing truly an iconic building. Would recommend to everyone!!

No shampoo and I couldn’t get the washing machine to work but the place was great - truly unique. People with mobility issues will struggle here - uneven floors. The bathroom is on the main floor while the bedrooms are up a brick staircase. A very interesting and different house. Beautiful kitchen. Steam in the shower. Skiing at Panorama was fun.

The Bug Eye house was a wonderful peaceful retreat. We stayed in off peak times just looking for a quiet spot to veg out, read, write and watch some movies. We did all that. The house cats were cute company and a family of deer visited every day - sometimes six or seven of them. Invermere is a lovely little town a short drive away with a welcome Main Street and friendly vendors. I would add an explicit note for the bug House on how to deal with garbage. Guests are required to carry out their own garbage to a local transfer station.

The bug eye house was beautiful! We had a great time during our stay, the views were absolutely stunning. 10/10 steam shower, I could have stayed in there all day. Shawna was a very communicative host, if we had a question, she was on it within the hour. We would love to come back someday.

We had a wonderful holiday weekend here. Interesting architecture and views of the mountain range made the home unique and enjoyable inside and out. The kitchen had all the tools/cookware we needed to make a nice meal which can be hard to find. A comfortable and clean king bed and couches. The steam room feature in the bathroom was a bonus after a long day of paddling down the Columbia river. Would certainly stay here again.

What a unique home! Thanks for a great stay.

This place is awesome! Very well put together and decorated with some gorgeous vintage items. Steam shower was amazing, and I absolutely loved having two shower heads. Huge downside that none of the fireplaces were operational but it was great in all other aspects.

Super séjour chez Shawna! Le cadre est exceptionnel ! La vue à couper le souffle.

Awesome little cabin!

Best place and view

This is a lovely house! I would definitely recommend to a single family. Pros: - Private and remote but only 5 minutes from Invermere. - Great views. - Tons of hiking trails only 100 m away. Llilian lake 3 min, and Panorama resort 15 min by car. - Beautiful rustic style, great to hangout inside and outside. Loved the Bug Eye windows! - Lovely cats! And there were three kittens when we stayed. ❤ Cons: - Only one bathroom and downstairs. Fine for us but something to keep in mind. - The balcony upstairs and fireplace are unavailable :( Since the bathroom door does not lock and the main bedroom is open, I would not recommend for multifamily or group of friends.

Ideal location for visiting any one of the nearby hotsprings and hiking trails around fairmont and radium. We had a very enjoyable trip and looked forward to winding down after our outings at this very unique and eclectic property. Lounging around the yard alongside the outdoor cat and her three adorable kittens was certainly a big highlight. You’ll be getting very close and familiar with fellow guests due to the extremely open layout, sound travel, and no indoor locks. One downside to note - inadequate airflow in the summer made the hot temperature difficult to adjust to at times and somewhat uncomfortable. Incredible shower.

A unique style place with very peaceful and quiet setting. Still very close to to invermere lake which was nice. Could use some landscaping to be able to hang out outdoors. Nice kitchen, nice steam shower.

Our stay at the Bug House was very enjoyable! Shawna did a great job in her description of the house and its amenities. It is quaint and eclectic with the log cabin mixed with brick and stainless steel! While we were there, the temperatures were pretty warm, and I sent Shawna a message requesting some fans to help circulate the air upstairs. She was quick to respond and sent a fan over right away! We also had a power outage, and Shawna sent information that they were working to restore power as quickly as possible. Overall, the house was very accurately described. It is off of a busier road, with quite a bit of traffic during the summer. The rooms are connected and have openings to the others, so sounds do travel from room to room. The shower was amazing! It was huge with two shower heads with lots of hot water for everyone! We also enjoyed being able to sit outside and take in the beautiful views. Thanks for a wonderful visit!

4 of us made Shawna's place our home for a week and it was an excellent place to stay! The commute to Invermere from the house was easy and short, but you still felt like you were far out in the countryside because it was so quiet and peaceful. The inside of the house is eclectic and very unique, and we had fun getting to know the place. We had pretty well everything we needed for our stay and it made enjoying our vacation that much easier. The yard and outside porch are very cute as well and the chickens and farm cats that roamed around added to the uniqueness. The only things we noticed were that the water seemed to be on the hard side (left calcification on things), and we did need to give some of the kitchen utensils and glasses a pre-scrub before we used them. Overall this was a fun stay and would recommend to those looking for a unique house in Invermere.

This is a very unique home and we enjoyed our stay. Here's a summary of the pros and cons: Positives: The location is very close to town (5min drive) with lots of amenities. There are also well marked and nice woodland trails you can walk to. There are lots of spaces inside and outside to sit and relax, read a book, birdwatch, or watch TV. The main room upstairs (with the bug eye) is special. Lots of space to stretch out. The view from the bedroom is amazing. The kitchen and bathroom were nice, the shower is excellent. Negatives: The stairs to the second floor are brick and have many transitions. If mobility is an issue for you I would avoid this home. If you need to get up at night for the bathroom walking downstairs could be dangerous. The wall between the bathroom and the kitchen is open at the top, so you can hear anything going on. The upstairs has the one main room, and a second bedroom off to the side, so not really private.

The house is set in the hills just outside Invermere with a beautiful view. There is a road running beside the house, but it wasn't very busy and we didn't notice the noise inside. It's a quick five minutes into downtown Invermere. The kitchen was well stocked for us to cook. The place is a log cabin that has charm that will grow on you. I will mention that you can hear everything in the cabin as there is not any insulation from the upper and lower floors, and the bathroom ceiling is open to the kitchen. So if traveling with others, be prepared to hear everything haha. There is not much separation between rooms other than a door right beside the loft bedroom. I would recommend a fan in the summer as it did get quite warm on the upper level with the beds, especially as only the patio door opens up there, but there is no screen so bugs could get in. We really enjoyed the large steam shower and friendly cats on the property.

We stayed here for a week and didn’t want to leave. Was very quiet and the view was breathtaking. The bed was super comfortable. Everything about our stay was wonderful. We will definitely be back!!!

We absolutely loved our stay here! The property is beautiful, you really feel like you are in the middle of the mountains. Shawna was helpful and responsive during our stay. Invermere is a fantastic place to explore, the lake is beautiful and so is the drive into Banff. The bug house was clean, spacious and quirky. A great place to stay if you’re looking for something different with incredible views.

Wow, the Bug Eye House! What an iconic spot in Invermere! So many wonderful trails directly on your front step & 3 minutes drive from my favourite lake. This was a very beautiful two week stay! What I will say is that in the Summer, it will get extremely hot in this house. I recommend the hosts install an aircon or have fans around. As mentioned in other reviews the heating is extremely loud and annoying. But it will heat nicely in winter! The double shower head shower is one of the best showers you will ever have & it is an excellent dance party showers for you & your love. ? The kitchen is well stocked, we loved cooking in that. Important to mention also is that the second room doesn't have it's own entrance and the window doesn't open, so you need to have the door from the guest room to the master open. Loved our stay, thank you so much! V

Our stay was great. The location was excellent for mountain bike riding, scenery was fantastic. The home is quite unique and worked well for us; however, the furnace is quite noisy. Other than that, it was a great week for us.

The place was super eclectic with fantastic views from the bedroom and cool architecture! Easy check in and out process. Only issue was the lights in the dining room didn't work. It would also be nice if there was some games in the house.

We had a great stay! Everything was clean and the house was beautiful. We found it a little interesting that there were people walking around the house/in the backyard a lot. We didn’t have quite the privacy we thought, but no real complaints. Shawna was super easy to communicate with!

A nice and unique house 10mn from the slopes, nice features, nice host. Thanks

Really neat log cabin! Had a nice stay here. Had all the things we needed for a comfortable stay. Only things I would note is that the forced air system is very loud and runs often (we went in March), there are dead flies on the ground (noted in the description), and the wifi was a bit spotty. Had great communication with Shawna. All in all, a unique place to stay while visiting the area!

Cosy place full of character. We enjoyed our stay at the bug eye house and loved BC. The evening & morning views are just incredible from the bedroom eye window. Clean & comfortable, we would recommend a stay here indeed.

Very cute little cabin! My husband and I were both very impressed with how homey it feels. Would definitely recommend this place to others!

When we arrived the house was very clean and well equipped. There were beautiful mountains views from upper floor windows. We found it conveniently located on the outskirts of Invermere only 15 min to Panorama ski resort and very close to Toby Creek hiking trails. The beds were very comfortable, the house excided our expectations. Shawna was very responsive and helpful. Thank you for your hospitality!

Quite a noisy furnace. Had trouble sleeping due to the location of the furnace. The space was quite cold. Mind you, it was a few of the coldest days of winter… Otherwise…. Insanity beautiful views!!! Awesome location and lovely space to hang out! The host was very kind and helpful for a few special requests.
